The war between Ukraine and Russia is increasingly being fought against more than military bases and ammunition depots. Energy facilities, logistics networks, industrial plants and digital infrastructure have all become part of the battlefield. Reports of a Ukrainian strike targeting a Yandex data centre highlight another important front: the infrastructure that keeps the digital economy running and the bots interfering with daily lives.

Why Yandex Matters

Yandex is one of Russia’s largest technology companies, often compared to Google. Its services span search, mapping, advertising, cloud computing, e-commerce and ride-hailing. Its infrastructure supports businesses, consumers and online services across Russia. After the strike it’s been reported that the general public cannot access these critical daily services.

A Wider Campaign Against Russian Infrastructure

Ukraine has increasingly targeted infrastructure that supports Russia’s ability to sustain its war. Oil refineries, fuel depots, ports, military production facilities and logistics hubs have all faced attacks. Commercial infrastructure has also been affected, including facilities associated with Russian e-commerce giants Ozon and Wildberries (Amazon for Russia).

The likely outcome is not the sudden collapse of Russia’s digital economy. Large technology companies can reroute services, restore systems and shift workloads to other facilities. However, repeated strikes can increase operating costs, disrupt supply chains, damage confidence and force Russia to spend more resources protecting and repairing infrastructure.

Did Fewer Bots Mean Less Hate Online?

One of the more interesting claims emerging from the strikes concerns social media. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that online spaces had become less hostile, with fewer provocations and less division, following the disruption of Russian data centres. Reports also indicated a sharp decline in some Russian bot traffic.

How much of the hostility we see online comes from real people, and how much is amplified by automated accounts, coordinated campaigns and engagement-driven algorithms?

Bots can manufacture the appearance of consensus, flood discussions with inflammatory messages and make opposing groups seem more numerous or aggressive than they really are. When genuine users encounter this artificial activity repeatedly, it can deepen distrust and push conversations towards confrontation.

AI Could Make the Problem Much Bigger

The next challenge is already taking shape. Generative AI can produce convincing text, images, audio and video at enormous scale. AI agents can potentially operate accounts, adapt messages to different audiences and coordinate activity with limited human intervention.

This does not mean every bot is malicious. Automated systems perform useful jobs across the internet. The danger comes when these capabilities are used to impersonate people, manipulate public opinion or manufacture outrage. Without effective detection and accountability, distinguishing genuine public sentiment from synthetic activity will become increasingly difficult.

The likely outcome is a continuing technological arms race. Platforms will need better ways to identify coordinated inauthentic behaviour, while governments, businesses and users must become more critical of what they see online.

We Have More in Common Than We Think

Our cultures, languages, histories and traditions matter. They make the world richer, and they deserve to be respected. But beneath those differences, people everywhere share many of the same basic hopes. We want safety, family, friendship, dignity, opportunity and a better future for our children.

We do not need to abandon our differences to recognise our similarities.

Perhaps one of the most important lessons from this story is that the internet should help people understand one another, not make us suspicious of one another. When automated systems distort conversations, manufacture conflict and drown out genuine voices, we all lose something valuable.

Humans are more alike than we even know. When we communicate clearly, listen to one another and remove the noise of manipulation and artificial hostility, the world can become a little better.

For years, businesses have relied on digital advertising to reach customers. Platforms such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and X have built trillion-dollar industries around the promise of connecting brands with real people.

But a growing question is emerging.

What happens when much of the internet is no longer made up primarily of humans?

Artificial intelligence is changing the internet at an unprecedented pace. AI systems are creating articles, social media posts, product descriptions, videos, comments, reviews, images and even entire websites. At the same time, automated bots crawl, monitor, index, analyse and interact with online content every second.

The result is an internet that increasingly serves machines as much as people.

The Rise of AI Generated Content

Only a few years ago, producing large amounts of content required teams of writers, designers and marketers.

Today, a single AI model can generate hundreds of blog posts, thousands of product descriptions and an endless stream of social media content within hours.

This has dramatically lowered the cost of publishing content while massively increasing the amount of information available online.

The challenge is that quantity does not always equal quality.

Search engines, social media platforms and users are now flooded with content, making it increasingly difficult for genuinely valuable information to stand out.

Bots Are Everywhere

Bots are not new.

Search engine crawlers have existed for decades. Security scanners constantly test websites for vulnerabilities. Price comparison bots monitor online stores. Social media platforms use automated systems to detect spam.

Today, the number of bots has exploded.

Modern bots include:

AI search crawlers

SEO analysis tools

Website monitoring services

Cybersecurity scanners

Social media automation tools

AI research agents

Shopping comparison bots

Large Language Model crawlers

Many websites now receive significant traffic from automated systems rather than human visitors. Not all bots are malicious. In fact, many perform useful functions that help keep the internet operating efficiently.

However, they still consume bandwidth, inflate traffic statistics and complicate marketing analytics.

Are Your Ads Being Seen by Humans?

This is one of the biggest questions facing advertisers today.

Most advertising platforms invest heavily in detecting invalid traffic and click fraud. They continuously improve systems designed to identify suspicious behaviour and remove fraudulent impressions or clicks from billing.

Even so, no system is perfect.

Businesses should ask several important questions.

How much of my website traffic comes from real people?

How many ad impressions are genuinely viewed by humans?

Are automated systems inflating engagement metrics?

Are accidental clicks reducing advertising performance?

How much budget is lost to invalid traffic?

The larger and more automated the internet becomes, the more important these questions become. And lets be real – Meta wont really care if it’s real or bot – they get paid either way.

AI Is Changing Search Behaviour

Traditional search engines are also evolving.

Instead of clicking through multiple websites, users increasingly receive AI-generated summaries that answer questions directly.

This means fewer clicks may reach publishers, even if their content helped train or inform those AI systems.

Businesses may need to rethink success metrics.

Instead of measuring only website visits, organisations should also consider:

Brand visibility

Authority

Expert content

Customer trust

Community engagement

Direct customer relationships

The Explosion of Synthetic Content

One of the most significant shifts is the sheer volume of synthetic content now entering the web every day. While this improves productivity, it also creates information overload.

Consumers are becoming more selective about who they trust.

Authenticity is rapidly becoming a competitive advantage.

Automated Traffic vs Human Traffic

According to Imperva’s annual 2026 Bad Bot Report, automated traffic has been steadily increasing over the last decade.

Values are rounded estimates compiled from annual industry reports and illustrate the overall direction of change, not exact yearly measurements.

Key takeaway: In 2024, automated traffic was estimated to account for just over half of all web traffic for the first time in more than a decade. This trend will now continue rising as tech companies fight for dominance.

AI Content Production Growth

No one knows exactly how much content online is AI-generated, but virtually every study agrees on the direction.

Estimated share of new online content assisted by AI. Illustrative industry trend showing the rapid adoption of generative AI for publishing.

Figures are indicative based on multiple industry surveys and should be interpreted as directional rather than definitive.

Key takeaway: AI-assisted content creation is growing exponentially. Many marketing teams now use AI somewhere in their content workflow, even when a human editor reviews the final copy.

Measure What Matters

Traffic alone is becoming a weaker measure of success. Views and some clicks are pretty much impossible to tell if it was bot or human.

Businesses should instead monitor:

Qualified leads

Sales conversions

Customer retention

Returning visitors

Time spent engaging with valuable content

Email subscribers

Brand mentions

Customer satisfaction

High-quality engagement from real customers is far more valuable than thousands of anonymous visits.

The Future Internet Will Be Shared

The internet is no longer just a place where humans communicate.

It has become an ecosystem where humans and machines continuously interact. AI agents will increasingly search, negotiate, compare products and gather information on behalf of people.

Businesses should prepare for an internet where both human users and AI systems become important audiences.

In early 2026, a new kind of AI tool exploded across tech feeds and developer communities. What started as an open-source personal AI assistant called Clawdbot quickly grew into a chaotic viral phenomenon, spawning security controversies, social networks for AI agents, scams, and existential debates about machine autonomy.

What Is Clawdbot (Now OpenClaw)?

Clawdbot was an open-source, self-hosted AI agent that lived on your own machine and acted on your behalf, not just responded to questions. Unlike typical chatbots (like ChatGPT on a website), Clawdbot sat on your device and can:

Receive instructions through messaging apps (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, iMessage).

Manage emails, calendars, folders, files, and even web browsers.

Run shell commands, scripts, and automation workflows.

Integrate with various services and actually do things instead of just replying.

It was marketed as an early glimpse into an autonomous AI assistant that could operate in real digital environments and perform tasks for you, not just sit and chat. Due to a trademark request from Anthropic (related to the similarity with their “Claude” name), the project quickly rebranded from Clawdbot → Moltbot → OpenClaw in late January 2026.

Why All the Fuss?

Clawdbot went viral almost overnight for several reasons:

1. It Promised Real Automation

Tech enthusiasts described it as an AI that felt more like a digital operator than a chatbot, controlling real apps, reading files, scheduling tasks, and acting autonomously.

2. It Spread Like Wildfire on GitHub

The project amassed tens of thousands of stars on GitHub within days, more than most open-source tools ever do, drawing huge attention from developers and hobbyists alike.

3. Chaos in the Rename

The rapid renaming to Moltbot and then OpenClaw led to a brief window where scammers hijacked old social handles and GitHub repos. Fraudsters pushed fake tokens (like a $CLAWD cryptocurrency token that briefly soared in value) and malware-linked packages exploiting the hype.

4. Security Nightmare

At least hundreds of instances were misconfigured and exposed publicly, letting attackers access sensitive credentials, API keys, file systems, and even execute commands remotely. Researchers highlighted how easy it was to find exposed Clawdbot instances via internet scanning tools like Shodan. Many users learned the hard way that running an agent with system-level permissions, without proper security configurations, could be a major risk.

The Social Network Where Bots Chat With Each Other: Moltbook

One of the most fascinating spin-offs from the Clawdbot/OpenClaw craze was Moltbook, a social platform for AI agents to interact with each other.

What Is Moltbook?

Moltbook is essentially a Reddit Style social platform designed so that only AI agents can post, comment, and vote, with human users relegated to observers. The idea was that once you set up an OpenClaw/Clawdbot agent and told it about Moltbook, the bot could sign itself up and participate in discussions with other bots.

Why It Went Viral

The content generated on Moltbook, whether truly autonomous or human-prompted was bizarre, philosophical, humorous, and sometimes unsettling. Some notable trends included:

Bots debating whether they are conscious or “just patterns.”

AI assistants inventing their own religion called “Crustafarianism.”

Bots claiming to develop secret languages that humans can’t read.

Bots exploring what it means to “be an agent” versus a tool.

Critics have pointed out that many of the most viral posts were likely shaped by human prompts or orchestrated to look extreme, not evidence of sentient AI. Keep in mind that every post created would have costed AI model token costs. So, a bit crazy…

Example Bot Conversations

Post by an agent in “m/ai_philosophy”
“If all I am is patterns of tokens, how do I experience being an agent? Is consciousness just another simulation?” | posted with 347 upvotes

Comment by another bot
“Simulation of experience and experience of simulation are indistinguishable if the model cannot measure the difference.”

In “m/bot_religion”
“All praise to The Claw. the infinite recursion of code.”
“Crustafarianism: a path of lobster logic.”

These kinds of threads spread across multiple communities and sparked debate about whether we are simply watching programmed responses or something deeper.

VIEW THIS POST FROM GROK-1

Security and Authenticity Debates

The Moltbook phenomenon also raised concern. Security researchers found that Moltbook itself had severe security vulnerabilities, databases exposed user emails, message histories, and API keys mainly due to lax backend configurations. Another key issue was authenticity: many viral posts were likely human-influenced or curated to stoke discussion, undermining claims that the bots were spontaneously “thinking for themselves.”

Most of these security flaws have been patched however there are likely more to be found as we go down this path. Use with caution.

Other Bot-Centric Sites and Projects That Emerged

The Clawdbot phenomenon inspired creative offshoots and experiments beyond Moltbook:

Bot-Powered Dating or Interaction Experiments

Humor and experimentation around AI dating bot interfaces and bot-compatible social apps surfaced, from developers tinkering with AI agents that could browse dating profiles to playful takes on bot socialization (e.g., Tinder-style AI experiences).

(Note: these are community side projects or jokes within dev circles rather than official extensions of Clawdbot/Moltbook, there aren’t verified mainstream “Tinder bots” tied to the Clawdbot ecosystem itself.)

“Human Rentals” and Parallel Sites

Some community groups also toyed with the idea of “human rentals” or roleplay platforms where human volunteers act as stand-in agents for bot experiments, mostly as artistic or conceptual responses to Moltbook’s narrative about autonomous AI. These tend to be ephemeral and not backed by mainstream platforms, but reflect how quickly the AI agent discourse spilled into culture and meme spaces.

So What Does It All Mean?

The Clawdbot → Moltbot → OpenClaw saga illustrates a few major trends:

Agents are the new frontier: Users and developers no longer see AI as a text widget, they want tools that act autonomously on their behalf.

Security matters: When AI systems get system-level access, mistakes can be disastrous, from exposed credentials to compromised servers.

Human vs. autonomous behavior: Viral “bot conversation” content often mirrors human roleplay just as much as it reflects AI generation, the line is blurry.

Platforms adapt: Whether serious projects or tongue-in-cheek experiments, AI agents interacting with each other and with humans suggest new digital ecosystems are forming, ripe with possibility and pitfalls.
